Relationship Counselling -
Joondalup & Perth northern suburbs

Man and woman seeking marriage counselling - provided by Mark Roussel Counselling

Every relationship has ups and downs, but sometimes those challenges feel too big to face on your own. That’s where relationship counselling can help. At my Joondalup office, I support individuals and couples across Perth’s northern suburbs to improve communication, resolve conflict, and strengthen their emotional bond.

What is Relationship Counselling?

Relationship counselling provides a safe, supportive environment where you and your partner can work through difficulties with the guidance of a trained professional. It’s not about taking sides, but about helping each person feel heard, respected, and understood.

This process can:

  • Improve communication and reduce misunderstandings

  • Rebuild trust after conflict or disconnection

  • Support couples through major life changes, such as parenting or FIFO work

  • Create stronger foundations for marriage or long-term partnership

Why Do Couples Seek Relationship Counselling?

Every couple has their own story, but many come to counselling for similar reasons:

  • Ongoing arguments that never seem to get resolved

  • Loss of intimacy or closeness, leaving one or both partners feeling disconnected

  • Stress from external pressures like finances, parenting, or busy work schedules

  • Trust issues caused by dishonesty, secrecy, or betrayal

  • Adjusting to change, such as moving house, blending families, or preparing for marriage

No matter what brings you here, counselling offers the tools and space to explore solutions together.

How Relationship Counselling Can Help

Counselling is designed to strengthen the bond between partners and create healthier patterns of connection. In sessions, you will learn how to:

  • Recognise and break negative cycles of communication

  • Respond to each other’s needs with empathy and understanding

  • Develop fair, respectful ways to agree and disagree

  • Build deeper emotional and physical closeness

  • Look ahead with shared goals and a stronger sense of partnership

When couples work through their challenges in counselling, they often find that not only does their relationship improve, but their overall wellbeing does too.

Relationship Counselling and Family Wellbeing

A healthy relationship provides the best environment for children to grow and thrive. When couples learn to communicate with kindness and respect, those behaviours are naturally modelled to their children.

Even small changes – such as starting and ending conversations in a caring way, can positively impact children’s sense of safety, belonging, and stability. By choosing to invest in your relationship, you’re also investing in your family’s future.
